4 Ways to Boost Your Salesforce Admin Career… and Salary!

It’s a really great time to be a Salesforce Admin. Your skills and experience are in demand, and employers across the country are clamoring to add someone just like you to their team.

Feels pretty good, doesn’t it?

But, with such demand for talent, now is also a good time to think about ways to boost your career. How can you get to the next level? What can you do to boost your salary? How can you stand out from other Salesforce Admins?

How to boost your Salesforce Admin career (and your salary along with it)

There are a multitude of resources available for Awesome Admins like you to take their careers to the next level. It can be overwhelming! Rather than search the web and build an endless to-do list, here are four (4) things you can do right now (or in the next few months) to take your Salesforce Admin career to the next level:

1. Get more certifications.

Salesforce certifications allow you to prove your credentials and demonstrate your knowledge in Salesforce. These are powerful indicators to employers that you are committed to your career and that you are at the top of your game!

You’ll find Salesforce’s administrators certification hub here — take a look at what’s available and what is involved. Then pick one and get started!

You’ll want to start with Salesforce administrator certification. This is a foundational certification for any administrator — if you’ve been working in the field for some time and haven’t gotten around to certification, start here. Not only can it make your resume more attractive to employers, it can help you negotiate a higher salary.

2. Stay on top of changes and updates.

With such rapid changes for Salesforce, it can be dizzying to keep up with the changes while continuing your 9 to 5 and, well, having a life. But there are simple ways to stay on top of updates and changes, and be able to speak knowledgeably on them to your bosses, colleagues and potential employers. Here are a few places to start:

Twitter. The official @SalesforceAdmins Twitter handle is an excellent place to start for updates and news. If you only have time to follow and regularly read content from one handle, make it this one! (For career advice and other tips, we also heartily recommend following @Tech2Resources

Web. Salesforce’s online hub for admins is packed with regular blog updates, admin stories and other resources. Bookmark the page and check back often, or subscribe to the Admin Digest. Be sure to also check out the Admins Podcast.

3. Spend a LOT of time on Trailhead.

Chances are you already poke around Trailhead quite a bit. To really take advantage of what Trailhead has to offer and leverage that to boost your career, you’ll want to absorb everything you can.

Launched at Dreamforce ‘14, Trailhead was developed to make learning about Salesforce easier for Salesforce professionals. New features and content are constantly added, making it the #1 destination for admins and other Salesforce professionals who want to take their careers to the next level.

Rather than dull slideshows and endless reading, Trailhead features interactive and gamification elements so that learning is a dynamic, engaging experience. There is SO much value here — the sky’s the limit for its potential impact on your admin career.

4. Ask for more responsibility — or be open to positions that will challenge you.

If you’re currently employed and want to move up the ranks, talk to your boss. Express an interest in more responsibility, and embrace any additional work that may come your way (you may even get a raise!).

Rather than more responsibility in your current role, you may also wish to pursue positions that will challenge you. These positions may be with your current employer or more often than not, with a new organization. With a solid foundation of experience and certifications, many employers are ready, willing and able to hire talent for their next challenging position.
