How to take advantage while the market is hot
If you’re a Salesforce developer (admins too), you’re in super high demand right now. You know it. We know it. And employers definitely know it. If you’re open to a new job, the time has never been better to see what’s out there and net your true worth.
Although the market has been strong for Salesforce developers for years now, the current situation is unparalleled. And navigating a (usually covert) job search can be difficult in normal circumstances, let alone the hottest market in many professionals’ lifetimes.
So what can you do? How can you be sure you’re really taking advantage of the hot market for Salesforce developers?
Here are some of our favorite tips:
Be open to any and all offers.
The only way to really know what’s out there is if you’re listening. It doesn’t necessarily mean you have to comb job boards and see what’s out there — chances are, recruiters are coming to you. What’s really important is that you listen to those recruiters. Be open to hearing them out.
Because you never know what could be if you’re not listening.
If you’re currently working a 9 to 5, checking emails or voicemails on lunch and after hours can be a major help. LinkedIn messages too. Most recruiters right now are working atypical hours because they know it’s harder to get a hold of Salesforce developers who are currently working.
Ask the right questions.
Don’t be afraid to put recruiters to the test to get as many details as possible up front. You’re probably fielding a lot of interest, and you don’t have time to play games. That’s why during the first call or email, you should ask for the most important details of a potential job. Of course, the most important details could be different for you, but here are generally what many people consider the most-important details:
> Location (on-site, remote, hybrid)
> Length of contract (or if perm)
> Start date
If there’s something else that’s important to you, add it to the list. This is one of those times, too, where it could be helpful to write out those questions on a Post-It note and hang it up where you can see it when talking to recruiters. That way, you don’t forget to ask while you have them on the phone.
Find a recruiting partner you can trust.
It’s impossible to underestimate the importance of finding a recruiter you can trust. Once that happens, you spend less time fielding calls and emails, less time asking questions, and more time working, relaxing, or doing whatever you want — because your recruiter is weeding out what isn’t a fit, submitting you for jobs that are a fit, and are bringing you in only when you have an interview.
The right recruiter will help you save a significant amount of time, can help you negotiate better offers, and really makes the entire process THAT much simpler.
